Episode 1 “begin activity” (Japanese: 活動開始) is the first chapter of the Lucky Star manga. It was originally published in the Comptiq January 2004 issue, which began selling in December 2003[Citation needed].

In the first strip, Izumi Konata has her running timed by Hiiragi Tsukasa. In the remaining strips, the two talk about chocolate cornets, eventually joined by Takara Miyuki.

In Volume 1, the episode begins and ends with art of Konata.

KONATA IZUMI[:] A girl that lives at her own pace, with tremendous athletic talent. However, she’s not what you call a girl of sports—she’s a girl that loves anime and games. Her senses are slightly off from normal people. As a compliment, one would say “she has a unique sensibility.” (Yoshimizu Kagami, Lucky Star, vol. 1, English ed., trans. Rika Takahashi, p. 6.)
