Episode 1 “begin activity” is the first chapter of the Lucky Star manga. It was originally published in the Comptiq January 2004 issue, which began selling in December 2003[Citation needed]. In the first strip, Izumi Konata has her running timed by Hiiragi Tsukasa. In the remaining strips, the two talk about chocolate cornets, eventually joined by Takara Miyuki.
