A meganekko (Japanese: 眼鏡っ娘, English: glasses-girl) is a girl whose appeal lies in her wearing glasses; the glasses represent an intellectual but shy or inwardly character archetype.[Citation needed] Takara Miyuki in Lucky Star is a typical meganekko, encompassing many meganekko traits such as frequently reading and being polite, shy, quiet, and clumsy. Tamura Hiyori is also a meganekko, though less typical.

Etymology

The word is a compound of nouns 眼鏡 (Hepburn: megane, English: glasses) and (Hepburn: ko, English: girl).
